OK, I promise I'll stop posting after this...

I don't know if you've heard about the show Mike and Molly. It's a new comedy on CBS about two overweight individuals who meet at an over eaters anonymous meeting. I watched an episode and it was a bit rough (but what show isn't rough in its first few episodes) but it was interesting and I adore Melissa McCarthy, she played Sookie in Gilmore Girls. Anyway, I haven't been able to catch it since I saw that one episode but a friend of mine posted something on FB yesterday that I found interesting. It was an article about the show and it was very unkind, not only to the actors who portray Mike and Molly but to men and women everywhere who are overweight. I've linked the article below.

Anyway, in response to this article Nicole made a post on her blog that I wanted to share with you. If you have time I would recommend not only reading the Marie Claire article but also Nicole's post.

Wow. Wow wow wow. I'm sort of at a loss of words. The article did rub me the wrong way but the author did have some valid points. (Marie could have been less rude)

Now I agree that many of the overweight/obese population could be less lazy and be more proactive about their needed change. Heck, I fall into that category. I could be doing more for myself but I'm not. I didn't like how she alluded that everyone in that category are revolting and incapable of making progress for the better. I wish more people were educated about the mental side of being overweight.

It is so difficult to change one's metabolism. Plus the correct method of losing weight (slowly, through small goals) is hard for people to accept. People want immediate results. People want the easy fix. Losing weight the correct way does not cater to those wants and desires.

It just sucks that our society is so judgmental. They judge your weight, they judge your clothes, they judge your car, they judge your education, etc, etc. I know it's easier to fixate on overweight/obese people since it is an epidemic (it's actually called globesity in my DMACC textbook). It sucks she decided to be negative and rude about the subject when that tone of writing can further affect the self-esteem of those in the unhealthy category. Bleh. I'm done ranting now.
